VICTOR TORRES
INTERNATIONAL SPEAKER/AUTHOR
BIO
Victor Torres was a gang warlord and heroin addict in New York City’s violent streets. At the age of twelve, he stabbed a young man. He quickly headed into a downward spiral. His mother believed that through her prayers, God would spare her son from this dark lifestyle. Those prayers led Victor to find help at Teen Challenge. Through the ministry of David Wilkerson, founder of Teen Challenge, and Nicky Cruz, Victor came to realize that God had a purpose for his life.
From the dark and violent streets of his past, Victor Torres went on to Bible College where he met and married Carmen. Together they have traveled to over 30 countries of the world - sharing the message of hope in Jesus Christ. Victor’s passion for evangelism led him to the streets of the inner-cities as well as universities, colleges and major ministries.
In 1971, Victor and Carmen founded the New Life For Youth ministry, one of America’s most successful ministries, helping literally tens of thousands of young men and women, over the course of 40 years, find freedom from drug addiction and gang life. Currently, New Life For Youth’s headquarters are in Richmond, Virginia, housing 110 students and staff. We also scholarship our graduates into a 2 year bible college after completion of the program.
Victor and Carmen are also the founders and pastors of New Life Outreach International Church in Richmond, Virginia. A vibrant and joyful congregation of over one thousand people, New Life Outreach International is made up of over 35 nationalities and cultures. Pastor Torres was the recipient of the 2007 Multicultural Unity Theologian Award. In 2012 Victor received an honorary doctrine degree from The Latin American Bible Institute. New Life Outreach Int’l has 22 churches throughout the United States and the world.
Victor has authored several books including his autobiography "VICTOR" which was made into an award-winning feature film and released in 2017. He and Carmen Torres have four children and seven grandchildren. Their vision is to reach the lost for Christ and make disciples by duplicating their ministry one hundred times over, all within their lifetime.
